Turtle Girl

one restless night
I woke thirsty
itchy
wings grew out of my shoulders
silly girl, she said
turtles don’t have wings
oh yes they do
my shell is heavy
my legs are slow
but when the moon is full, I sprout my wings
and fly far away
remembering desire
quick
pull in
disappear
the shell is safe
when its time to lay eggs in the sand
you can swim in the sea of opportunity
what if I wasn’t a turtle
what would I do
where would I go
how could I be anyone else but
a turtle with wings
Thank you LORAN I love this, it speaks to me in more ways than you know. Xxx
I’m so glad you understand my words. They come from a very deep place I usually don’t share. x
A lovely piece, Loran. Such beautiful imagery throughout. And sincere depth of feeling. Your poem is something I want to revisit over and over just so I can immerse in those depths. Excellent! #keepwriting
Thank you, Debra. So much.
