Many Rivers to Cross, 2.0

There is a pandemic happening in the world right now, not just at home in the USA, even though we Americans have an “interesting” attitude about community in the midst of social isolation. There’s a lot being written about it all, the good, the bad, the ugly, the heartbreaking. We’re in this for the long haul, not just the next few weeks.
Fortunately, some of my spiritual training helps me stay in today. I can easily drift back into the past (and did while working on my memoir). I can future trip and catastrophize effortlessly. But, it’s today.
Today. Saturday, March 28, 2020. Everything feels surreal but when I look outside the window from my chair where I like to write, it’s early spring in Wyoming. There’s snow in the mountains, the grass is brown, our birch trees are budding just a little, the tulip leaves are poking out. Seven black Austrolorp hens run around the yard pecking for worms. And best of all, a pair of sandhill cranes returned!
In 2008 I started a blog called Many Rivers to Cross. We’d just returned from our first trip to Bhutan, Thailand and Nepal. A friend suggested I start a blog to share my photos and I did. Back in the day when “everyone” was blogging it was fun, relaxed, chatty. I met people from around the world through SkyWatch. We shared our lives and our scenery and the most beautiful sky shots. I stopped blogging after I started my online business, Loran’s Heart. I thought I had the creds to make it. It’s a long story I’ve written about before and don’t want to revisit today.
After that I decided to write a book. I have two unfinished manuscripts. One is a dystopian fiction novel. My dystopia was created by climate disaster not a virus. A fictional catastrophe, while we live a real one, might not be what we need right now. My memoir seems, well, self-centered.
Someone commented about our human ability to adapt to rapid change. Maybe. I have concerns about how things will play out, but that’s in tomorrow.
So. What I want to do is start blogging again about the mundane and the spiritual, to share my thoughts in real time about what’s happening. Not for posterity, if there is any. Just to be a human living through extraordinary times who thinks, evaluates, ponders and creates. I want to keep it simple here. Perhaps helpful. Open to conversations – as in, you know – leave a comment! It doesn’t take too long to sign in.
My focus is on nature, Earth, the seasons. I think we need to pay very close attention to the messages we are receiving. I’m doubtful there will be a return to what we used to think of as normal.
We’re crossing a new river. Let’s see what’s on that other shore.
Life a a I funny. And often circular as in we find ourselves returning to old projects. Here’s to you enjoying this lap of your journey my friend.
I’m painting again, too, Dee. So yes, returning to the things I enjoy.

I’m glad you’re glad and I’m glad, too!
Isn’t that a song?
Lovely to connect with you here Loran. I look forward to reading more. And I agree we are crossing a new river and like they say we don’t cross the same river twice ever in the same way ❤ be well
Tanya, you are so right! There are many river analogies coming to mind all of a sudden. Thanks!
May you stay well also.
It’s so inspiring to know you are doing this again. Sharing your perspective and your heart
It makes me happy and takes a lot of pressure off myself to “perform.” Thanks for you constant support, Kathleen!
So delightful to find you in my inbox. I look forward to seeing what you have to say and what you are feeling and thinking.
it is such an unprecedented time in our lives. I think everyone is at a loss to know just how to handle all this. I miss living in the same town with you so much. And group meditation too. Take good care and stay well. Love you lots.
Brenda
